Antarctica is impossible to describe in only a few words. Once you cross the Drake Passage, pursued by myriads of seabirds, breathtaking landscapes await, with majestic glaciers and icebergs, high mountains and limpid snowfields. These are home to a varied fauna: Gentoo, Chinstrap and Adelie Penguins are found in dense colonies. Leopard, Crabeater and Weddell seals doze in the pack ice and the immaculate Snowy Petrels fly in the calm bays. Minke and Humpback whales are tame and allow close approach to our Zodiacs, while Orcas are also regularly seen in the channels.

The crossing of the Drake Passage allows views of the most interesting seabirds that fly magically around the ship, appearing and disappearing or even following us as we sail across one of the most adventurous seas in the world. Venturing to the Sub Antarctic islands adds a phenomenal array of fauna, which includes King and Rockhopper penguins and several endemic birds. The white continent teems with wildlife and history alike, and for those travelers of today who are following the steps of the explorers of the “heroic era”, yet another adventure beckons in Antarctica.
